“The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades”
I was thinking about doing a Best of 2011 post but then saw that everyone beat me to it. Instead of looking at the past I think it is best to forget about 2011 and think about what the Reds will do in 2012.
So instead of looking back and listening to “Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer than They Are” we will turn up “The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades” and get ready for one heck of a 2012 season.
Joey Votto should have another great season both at the plate and with the glove. Brandon Phillips will play the best he has ever played in order to prove he is worth an extension and Zack Cozart will show everyone he deserves to be on the roster. Scott Rolen will be injury free and helping the team become champions. Chris Heisey, Todd Frazier, Miguel Cairo, Paul Janish and Juan Francisco will get in some good playing time in 2012. Drew Stubbs will hit the ball on the ground and leg out some base hits then steal his way into scoring position. Jay Bruce will keep hitting well and getting a lot more RBIs. Ryan Hanigan will go on to become a great on base percentage threat in 2012 along with sharing some time with Devin Mesoraco who might have a rough start but should go on to become a great catcher for many years to come.
As for pitching I am very excited to see how well the starting rotation will take shape after spring training. Will Mat Latos become the next pitcher to throw a no-hitter in a Reds jersey? Will Johnny Cueto lock in the #1 spot after spring training and show everyone he is ready for the job? Can Bronson Arroyo bounce back and become the solid inning eating pitcher we all remember so well? Homer Bailey, Aroldis Chapman and Sam LeCure will have fun fighting for the last rotation spot during spring training. Mike Leake will become even more deadly in 2012 proving his is capable of becoming a solid top of the rotation starter also.
There are still a lot of question marks when it comes to the Reds roster as we head closer and closer to spring training but Walt Jocketty is getting the job done and I am very happy with the progress so far. Sean Marshall and Mat Latos are great players to have on the team and should help out a lot in 2012. I seriously did not ever expect Walt to get deals like this done this offseason. It was a gutsy call and I am looking forward to watching it pay off.
