Following this morning’s physicals, a team meeting with manager Bryan Price took place in the Reds clubhouse.  After that, it was time to take the field!

Below are some photos, but first, don’t forget to include #JoeyVotto and #FaceOfMLB in all of your tweets today!

Baseball is back!!!

It’s still fairly quiet at the Reds Player Development complex in Goodyear.  However, several of the pitchers are already here getting in early work.  They include Sam LeCure , Logan Ondrusek , JJ Hoover , Pedro Villarreal , Jeff Francis , Mat Latos , Chad Rogers , Lee Hyde and Michael Lorenzen .

Better Off Red favorite, Tucker Barnhart has been busy catching a lot of bullpen sessions.

If you’re not familiar with Rogers, he’s a rising star in the Reds system who had to delay his professional debut in 2010 after he was bitten by a shark while surfing off the Gulf Coast.  The injury required 60 stitches.

Lorenzen was the Reds Competitive Lottery Round A Pick (38th overall) in 2013.  An incredible athlete, Lorenzen pitched and played outfield for Cal State-Fullerton.  He appeared at 4 different minor league levels last year, his first professional season.

An absolute gorgeous morning at the Reds Spring Training complex in Goodyear, Arizona.  The forecast for today calls for lots of sun and temperatures reaching near 80 degrees; mid 80′s by the end of the week.

Several Reds pitchers and catchers are already here getting their work in, including Sam LeCure, who arrived at the complex this morning closely resembling the “Dude” on his t-shirt.

Movie Night: Major League II

With such a boring off-season for the Cincinnati Reds I thought maybe we could watch a movie instead of trying to figure out what Walt Jocketty and the Reds will try to do to improve this ball club for this upcoming season. Some days I really wonder if Mr. Jocketty actually has a plan at all when he goes into the off-season. So, sit back and enjoy a great movie while we all wait for Uncle Walt to pull a rabbit out of his… hat.

Sorry embed code did not work. LOL Go to the link to watch the movie.

Major League II

Won’t Choo bring Arroyo back?

Cincinnati Reds are close to bringing RHP Bronson Arroyo back to joining the starting rotation. Many, even Walt Jocketty thought it would be very hard to get a player like Arroyo back on the team but for some strange reason not many teams have shown a lot of interest in him. One thing I like about Bronson Arroyo is the fact that you know what you are getting from a pitcher like this every single season. 200+ Innings with a great club house guy who will help the younger pitchers a lot. If the Reds can sign him to a one year deal they would add more pitching depth which is always good, especially after the season they had last year.

Another former Red who is having trouble finding a team this off-season is Shin-Soo Choo. Many teams do not want to give up a draft pick and the huge money/years that he wants. This is one of those situations where Scott Boras might have hurt himself by waiting. If the Reds could get lucky and sign him to a short term contract too it would really help the team out big time. Walt Jocketty and the Reds front office pretty much gave up on re-signing Choo but with the market disappearing maybe they will be able to get him back on a one year deal too. Santa would really be good to Reds fans this year if that was to happen.

Joey Votto wins Tip O’Neill Award for the 4th consecutive year

With all the trade rumors going around this off-season Cincinnati Reds fans sometimes forget to talk about the players who are not being traded. Like 1B Joey Votto who just won the Tip O’Neil Award. There has been a lot of talk by reporters about how people expected more out of the Reds star and I am not one of those people. I think after coming off a injury Joey Votto did great and I expect it only to get better as the years go by. With all the huge contracts signed by other teams this off-season I am very happy to have Joey Votto as the Reds main player. He will produce every year without any concern at all. Congratulations Joey Votto, you deserve it.
