Brad Penny in Great American Ball Park

I did some searching today, trying to find a pitcher that would help the Cincinnati Reds out in 2012. I went through the list of pitchers that have done well in Great American Ball Park and also took into account ones that the Reds could maybe afford. Brad Penny hit my radar and looked very impressive in the Reds Ball Park. Getting a 5 and 1 record with a 3.00 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP in 7 games started and 45 innings pitched with only 4 home runs. Penny is at a price that the Reds could be able to afford and if he keeps doing well in Great American Ball Park he could do very well for the Reds. In 2011, Brad Penny played for Detroit Tigers and finished with a 11 – 11 record with a 5.30 ERA after 31 starts and 181.2 innings pitched.

Of course Brad Penny is not the top of the rotation pitcher they are looking for but with his numbers in their ball park it sure would help the rotation out a lot at home. Penny has 119 wins and 99 losses in 12 seasons with a 4.23 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. He has given up 187 home runs in 315 games started and 1871 innings pitched with 1250 strike outs. I think if he came back to play in the National League that would really help his career again and he is 34 years old so if the Reds could sign him to a 1 or 2 year contract they would be safe. He has a 101 – 80 record in the National League with 3.99 ERA with 260 games started and 1557.2 innings pitched. I really think it would be good for both the Reds and Penny. If the Reds could get 170 to 180 innings from him and have him pitch good in Great American Ball Park that might really boost the rest of the rotation.

I have listed other pitchers that have done well in Great American Ball Park. Most of them are already on the Reds team and some of the others are either way too expensive for the Reds to get or would cost them way too much in a trade.
