#Reds change batting order (May 9, 2014)

Cincinnati Reds have changed things up for the first game against Colorado Rockies. Switch hitting Catcher Brayan Pena will bat 2nd, with 1B Joey Votto batting 4th. I am very happy to see RF Chris Heisey and SS Zack Cozart batting down in the order. I have included the hitters career BA in that spot in the batting order. I think Brayan Pena is going to have a big game along with Joey Votto.

1. CF Skip Schumaker .291
2. C Brayan Pena .200
3. 2B Brandon Phillips .275
4. 1B Joey Votto .309
5. 3B Todd Frazier .271
6. LF Ryan Ludwick .264
7. RF Chris Heisey .250
8. SS Zack Cozart .248
9. P Johnny Cueto .101

#Reds use the fourth, with Chris Heisey

Cincinnati Reds OF Chris Heisey is batting 4th today due to the late lineup scratch of RF Jay Bruce. Heisey has batted 4th in the lineup in 13 games, 2 of them starts. In 24 PA he has 3 hits, 1 run, 1 HR and 2 RBI with 2 BB and 6 SO giving him a .150 BA, .261 OBP, .300 SLG and a .561 OPS. Some people love him, some hate him and some really don’t care but I think we all can agree having him bat fourth in the lineup today is just crazy, especially after he just came off an 0 for 4 game batting first yesterday. I think manager Bryan Price is hoping he will come up big for the team today and many will say 13 games is way to small of a sample size to judge how well Heisey will do today. I hope they are right and he comes up big for the Reds today. Since it is Star Wars weekend at Great American Ball Park maybe Heisey will use the Force and hit some home runs!

“nobody is untouchable”

Cincinnati Reds general manager, Walt Jocketty for the first time with the Reds has said something I never thought he would ever say, “nobody is untouchable.” This quote makes me smile big time and hopefully it sends the right message to the players on the Reds. [Source]

This quote is in reference to the rumors of Brandon Phillips being traded. Walt stated that he had not talked to anyone yet but he also said, “nobody is untouchable” which I am sorry to keep repeating it but sounds so good right now. It means they are tired of the crap and are head hunting. 90 wins is not a good enough excuse anymore!

I still think Phillips will be dealt, even with Walt saying he had not talked to anyone. I also think they will be trading other players too this off-season. It should make for a very busy time for the front office and for Reds fans. With the manager spot already filled by Bryan Price, it is time to get ready for the cleaning to begin. I predict things to be happening as soon as they can make moves.

My #reds Check List

I have seen a few blogs already start an off-season check list for the Cincinnati Reds so I thought I would join the fun and list what I think the Reds should do this off-season.

1. Sign a rough and tough manager who does not want to be buddies with the players. Pitching Coach Bryan Price would be great but I am not sure he is going to be mean enough right now and the Reds need a guy that will stir up the hen-house!

2. Trade Johnny Cueto. After seeing the way he handles playoffs and after him being injured the whole season maybe it is time to see what you can get for him.

3. Make Ryan Ludwick a bench player. This off-season the Reds should be looking to get a better solution at LF. If they are going to keep Todd Frazier at 3B they will need more pop coming out of the LF spot. A Right handed bat that will go in between Joey Votto and Jay Bruce. Moving Ludwick to the bench would then move Chris Heisey out!!!!! He should have been in the deal with Drew Stubbs to tell you the truth.

6. Let him steal! Get Billy Hamilton in CF and let him play a whole season as the lead off hitter.

7. Sign cheap catcher depth. I have a feeling the Reds are going to be needing more catcher depth if they want to continue making the playoffs. Devin Mesoraco and Ryan Hanigan got beat up this season. Don’t get me wrong, I love Corky Miller, but having a few more pro ready catchers could really help this team next season.

8. **** Fire Walt Jocketty! If at any time Walt says, “I don’t want to make a move just to make a move.” this off-season I think the owners should say, “You’re FIRED!” and get someone who will make moves to better the team. As far as I know, the Reds are in it to win it! So that means, getting players that will WIN IT!!!!
