On 11/17/11 Cincinnati Reds re-signed free agent RHP Chad Reineke adding one more to the list of “big” moves they have made this offseason. The first (and only) of course was re-signing Corky Miller. Don’t get me wrong they are great moves but really not what I expected from a team that finished below .500 in 2011. (79 wins and 83 losses .488 PCT and 17 games back from first.)
Chad Reineke played in AAA Louisville Bats of the International League in 2011. He got a 9 – 7 record with 22 games started and 126.2 innings pitched. He finished the season with a 3.84 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. With 8 seasons in the minors he has a 55 – 53 record, 3.92 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. Along with playing for Louisville he has also played for Tri-City ValleyCats, (New York-Pennsylvania League) Lexington Legends, (South Atlantic League) Salem Avalanche, (Carolina League) Corpus Christi Hooks, (Texas League) Round Rock Express, Portland Beavers and Sacramento River Cats all of the Pacific Coast League.
The only time his ERA has dipped under 3.00 in the minors was his first season where he had a 2.45 in 36.2 innings and in 2006 for Salem where he had 2.98 in 17 starts and 99.2 innings pitched. He has mostly had an ERA in the 4.00 range in AAA. He will be 30 next season and might get called up if there are injuries like last season.
He played 18 innings for San Diego Padres in 2008 getting 2 wins and 1 loss after playing in 4 games. He also got 1 start for Oakland Athletics in 2009 getting a 7.20 ERA after 5 innings. In 2011 he playing in 2 games for Cincinnati going 0 – 1 with a 6.75 ERA in 6.2 innings. With a career total of 2 wins 2 losses and a 5.76 ERA with a 1.48 WHIP in 29.2 innings.
Like I said before it is nice that they re-signed him along with Corky Miller but I really did not expect those to be the only deals made so far this offseason. The Front Office will really have to pick up their socks at the winter meetings if they want to get anything done at all this offseason. Some one needs to go check on Walt Jocketty and make sure he is not hibernating in his office.
